Creative Winter Activities

It’s cold. That’s what’s on my mind this week. I’m a winter-lover but this week is cold. The bitter temperatures magnify the isolation and shutdown that the pandemic has brought us. It’s always harder to get outside in the winter and any other year I might hunker down and wait this tough stretch out. But outdoor walks and runs and skates and skis, getting the dog around the block, these small activities combat the daily grind of the pandemic. Of course, and once again, the pandemic brings out the creative in our communities. People in the City of Warroad have embraced the weather and linked backyard skating rinks along a 2.5 mile stretch of the Warroad River. Kids and families are skating the length of the river, rink to rink, tempted by backyard fires and music and chances to talk. The pandemic has shown us that we all want to be outside (sometimes) and be with other people – cities will keep finding ways to do this.
